143. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht to provide an update on the implementation of the Irish Sign Language Act 2017 (ISL) within his Department and its associated public bodies, including details of any ISL strategies that have been developed; and if no ISL strategy has been developed to date, the details of plans his Department has to address this gap in the near future. I can confirm for the Deputy that my Department continues to implement the relevant provisions of the Irish Sign Language Act 2017.

For example, the Act places a statutory duty on all public bodies to provide ISL users with free interpretation, when availing of or seeking to access services. In that regard, my Department, across the various Sectors, provides free interpretation services and are available on request including at Departmental events, such as the up-coming annual National Famine Commemoration.

With regard to Agencies/Bodies, under my Department's remit, I can advise that the implementation of the relevant provisions of the Act is an operational matter for the respective Agency/Body.
