Planning for the National Economic Dialogue is underway for the summer of 2025.

This event is an important part of the pre budgetary process as an opportunity to hear a range of views from stakeholders about the priorities that are shaping government policy. The National Economic Dialogue, or NED, takes place over a single day in Dublin Castle and brings together Ministers and representatives from community groups, academia plus unions and employers groups. An independent chair oversees a mix of plenary sessions and breakout sessions that are dedicated to specific policy themes.

The plenary sessions are livestreamed on the Department of Finance website and national broadcasters have carried some of the proceedings. The dedicated breakout sessions, which are chaired by Government Ministers, are closed sessions but detailed reports of these discussions are shared with all participants at the afternoon plenary. The papers that inform the discussions are available online at gov.ie on the day and provide important background to the policies being covered.

The NED also serves as the consultation required for the development of Ireland's national medium term fiscal plan which will be submitted to the EU later in the year.

The date and the full list of themes and breakout sessions for this years dialogue will be announced shortly.
