The 2025 Electric Small Public Service Vehicle Grant Scheme (eSPSV25), which was launched the 17th of February, has this year seen an unprecedented level of interest from taxi, hackney and limousine operators across Ireland.

This Scheme supports the uptake of EVs in the small public service vehicles sector and has a budget of €12.5m in 2025.

The eSPSV25 Grant Scheme is now fully subscribed with 1,850 applications. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has temporarily paused the scheme to review and process the eligible applications received. Following assessment of the initial applications, the scheme may reopen later in the year.

The Electric Small Public Service Vehicle Scheme (eSPSV) supports the uptake of EVs in the SPSVs sector (taxis, hackneys, and limousines).

This sector plays an important role in decarbonising the broader transport system and is funded by ZEVI in the Department of Transport and administered by the National Transport Authority (NTA).

eSPSV No. of Applications Received No. Approved Average Grant Paid
2021 1,487 582 €19,350.51
2022 2,604 634 €18,044.52
2023 1,874 653 €18,391.27
2024 2,699 752 €17,780.21
Reasons an applicant may be unsuccessful include withdrawal, lapsed timeframe for drawdown of funds, or incomplete applications.

eSPSV25, which was launched the 17th of February, has this year seen an unprecedented level of interest so early in the year. With a budget of €12.5m the grant scheme is now fully subscribed.
