The school referred to by the Deputy was approved to enter the Department’s pipeline of school buildings under the Additional School Accommodation (ASA) Scheme to provide 4 special educational needs classrooms and 4 mainstream classrooms.
This project is devolved for delivery to the Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board. A Design Team has been appointed to progress the project through the necessary architectural stages of design, statutory approvals, procurement and construction.
A Stage 1 report was received by my Department in Q3 2024. The project is being reviewed from a technical and cost perspective in accordance with the requirements of the Public Spending Code. All projects, including this one, undergo the necessary due diligence outlined in the Public Infrastructure Guidelines. My Department will endeavour to complete this review as early as possible.
At this stage, it is not possible to predict when a significant school building project of this nature will go to construction, nor when it will be completed, as progress depends upon many contingent factors that can arise. My Department will continue to engage with the GRETB to provide practical advice and assistance on this much needed project.
