National pipefitting apprenticeship training at phases 4 and 6 is delivered through:

  • Phase 4: Louth Meath Education Training Board with 84 places available in 2025.
  • Phase 6: Munster Technological University (MTU) at its Bishopstown campus in Cork, with an April and September intake in 2025 followed by a January intake in 2026 each with the capacity for 16 places.
As of the end of March this year, there are 414 Pipefitting apprentices across the country. Of these 414 apprentices, there are 31 apprentices in phase 3 and 2 apprentices in phase 5 who are eligible to move forward for phases 4 and 6 training, respectively. That is to say, apprentices who have completed their previous phases and passed all assessments, along with serving the minimum time of six months in their current on-the-job phase.

SOLAS advises that there is sufficient training capacity for 2025. The HEA and SOLAS are actively collaborating to monitor training capacity and ensure that the supply of apprenticeship training places remains sufficient, issues will be addressed if they occur.
