I am assured that the Garda Commissioner keeps the allocation of resources under continued review to ensure their optimum use. Among the factors considered are population statistics, crime trends and operational policing demands.

I am informed by Garda authorities that a regional competition was held in 2024 to create a panel of Detective Inspectors for fifteen vacancies. Following the competition, a panel was created from which all vacancies were filled. The panel formed as a result of this competition has now been exhausted.

I understand that all Detective Inspector positions in the Region are currently filled.

Finally, I am informed that Garda management is currently conducting a regional assessment and review of approved and appointed positions.
