There have been 122 Fixed Charge Notices issued for the offence of Exceeding Local Road Speed Limit 60Km/h Contrary to Section 47 (as inserted by Section 11 Road Traffic Act 2004) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 since the date of the change of speed limits on local rural roads.
107 of these instances involved a driver travelling in excess of 80 km/h and the remaining 15 were travelling between 60 and 80 km/h.
Figures are based on incidents which occurred from 7 February to 3 April 2025, inclusive. All information is based upon operational data from the FCPS system as was available on 4 April 2025 and is liable to change.
I am advised that speed limits on local rural roads were reduced by my colleague, the Minister for Transport, from 80 km/h to 60 km/h as of 7 February. An Garda Síochána advise that the number of offences for which a Fixed Charge Notice was issued for exceeding a speed limit of 60 km/hr is too low nationally for the period of 7 February to date to provide a breakdown by Garda Division due to data protection reasons.
