Additional capital funding of €450m was agreed by Government for the approval of projects to deliver social, affordable and cost rental homes.
Under this funding, some 3,000 new homes are expected to be delivered over the period 2025-27, of which, 2,261will be delivered through the Cost Rental Equity Loan (CREL) and the Affordable Housing Fund (AHF). A further 1,325 new social homes will be delivered through the Social Housing Investment Programme (SHIP) and the Capital Advance Leasing Facility (CALF), 575 of which will be delivered in 2025.
The additional capital funding builds on the very significant housing investment provided by Government in recent years. The overall capital funding available for housing in 2025 is now over €6.7 billion, supported by a further €1.65 billion in current funding to address housing need. Government will continue to invest to build robust pipelines for social and affordable homes and to provide certainty and confidence to citizens and the wider Housing market.
The scale of public housing activity across all 31 local authority areas can be seen in the Social Housing Construction Projects Status Reports which my Department publishes regularly - the last one covered the period to Q3 of 2024 (see www.gov.ie/en/publication/1e0ab-social-housing-construction-projects-status-report-q3-2024/) and this will be further updated soon. Social housing projects underway on the part of Laois County Council are included in this report.
