576. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if he will provide a schedule of all capital projects being delivered or which have been completed by his Department and organisations under the aegis of his Department since 1 January 2020; the total project cost of projects in excess of €500,000, or of any other capital projects below this that have come to his Department's attention for reasons of overspend or due to the fact that they failed to be delivered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department in its current configuration was established in September 2020.

In relation to capital projects being delivered or which have been completed by my Department, the details requested for the period since then are as follows:

Year Capital Project Cost to Date Project Overspend Project Status
Sept 2020 - 2025 National Archives of Ireland Census €1,235,123 n/a Ongoing
Sept 2020 - 2025 National Archives of Ireland redevelopment €9,467,955 n/a Ongoing
2024 New grant management system €103,675 n/a Ongoing
Regarding the bodies and agencies under my Department’s remit, capital projects are an operational matter for the agencies themselves. Notwithstanding this, as I explained to the Deputy recently on the floor of the house, I have written to bodies under the aegis of my Department in order to provide an additional layer of assurance around spending on capital projects, in addition to the existing oversight arrangements in place, as well as the annual auditing process undertaken by the Comptroller and Auditor General, and I expect a report on this shortly.

My Department also supports a large number of capital projects through capital programmes that it operates, particularly on the Sport and Culture sectors. These are delivered by grantee organisations and information in respect of these programmes is available on my Department’s website.
