I can advise the Deputy that a permission letter initially issued to the person cited based on the information provided at that time. The applicant / sponsor subsequently advised that an incorrect Date of Birth (DOB) was submitted. The Afghan Admission Programme (AAP) Division are not in a position to issue an amended letter until such time as the final immigration checks, based on the new DOB provided, have been completed. This application can only be determined when all the required information is received by the AAP Division. When considering applications, the AAP Division is required to verify and confirm identification, immigration history, criminal history, and the details and/or documentation submitted in support of the application. Unfortunately, it is the case that the response times for some of these checks are beyond the control of the AAP Division of my Department.I am fully aware that every applicant to the programme has serious concerns for the welfare of their family members. I can assure anyone who has submitted an application that officials in my Department are doing everything possible to process all applications as thoroughly and quickly as possible.

As an Oireachtas member, you can also request the status of individual immigration cases by e-mail, using the Oireachtas Mail facility at: IMoireachtasmail@justice.ie, which has been specifically established for this purpose. This service enables up to date information on such cases to be obtained without the need to seek information by way of the Parliamentary Question process.
