Our Government Digital Wallet programme is aligned with the EU Digital Identity (EUDI) Regulation. Ireland plans to transpose the EUDI legislation in line with the set regulatory timetable, to give the Digital Wallet full legal status by end-2026.
The Government Digital Wallet has already been prepared for launch and we are working with the relevant departments, including the Department of Transport, to go through the legal adjustments that could be made to enable the various credentials within the Wallet to have full legal authority for national use in advance of the EU timetable. We plan to launch a Beta testing programme with the public later in 2025 to give them access to the Irish Government Digital Wallet and invite their feedback and comments.
