I propose to take Questions Nos. 355 and 356 together.
The Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) supports improving non-public rural roads and laneways not usually maintained by local authorities. Since its establishment in 2017, almost €170 million has been provided by the Government to local authorities for LIS.
Since 2017, Carlow has been allocated €4.38 million, and Kilkenny has been allocated €5.22 million in LIS funding. This figure includes a 2024/2025 allocation of €0.94 million for Carlow and €1.30 million for Kilkenny.
The following table provides details of the number of roads improved under the LIS scheme in County Carlow and County Kilkenny from 2020 to 2024.
Year | County Carlow | County Kilkenny |
---|---|---|
2020 | 15 | 7 |
2021 | 25 | 19 |
2022 | 37 | 11 |
2023 | 21 | 11 |
2024 | 19 | 10 |
