85. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport his views on the potential for extra train services on the Waterford to Limerick Junction rail line; the timeline for when these could be delivered given the ongoing delivery of new railcars to the Irish Rail fleet; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport; however, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport.

Under the Programme for Government, the Department will work collaboratively with operators to act on the recommendations from the All-Island Strategic Rail Review to improve connectivity across the island of Ireland. In line with this, additional track capacity, electrification, increased line speeds and new routes to enhance and develop rail services will be developed.

The issue raised by the Deputy is an operational matter for Irish Rail. Therefore, I have referred the Deputy's question to Irish Rail for direct response.

Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.
