I propose to take Questions Nos. 77 and 78 together.

The improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads is the statutory responsibility of each local authority, in accordance with the provisions of Section 13 of the Roads Act 1993. Works on those roads are funded from Councils' own resources supplemented by State road grants. The initial selection and prioritisation of works to be funded is a matter for the local authority. On 14th February 2025 I announced an Exchequer investment of €713 million in our regional and local roads across the State which represents an overall increase of over 8% in funding this year. The main focus of the grants continues to be the protection and renewal of the regional and local road network. As regards the funding allocated to Cavan County Council and Monaghan County Council for the maintenance and upgrades of regional and local roads in each of the years 2020 to 2024, details of the regional and local road allocations and payments to local authorities are outlined in the regional and local road allocations and payments booklets which are available on the Oireachtas Digital Library.

In addition to funding allocations under the main Regional and Local Road Grant Programmes, Monaghan County Council has received funding of €4,084,278 since 2020 and Cavan County Council received funding of €912,058 in 2024 for a number of pilot schemes relating to road materials. Further allocations have been provided for both Councils in 2025. These allocations are included under pilot schemes in the miscellaneous section of the allocations and payments booklets.

The 2025 regional and local roads allocations booklet will be uploaded to the Oireachtas Digital Library in the coming weeks. The 2025 allocations by county can be found at www.gov.ie/pdf/?file=https://assets.gov.ie/319199/4f12c3fa-1687-48aa-8074-abf1c6974953.pdf#page=null
