Ireland is fully committed to preserving outer space as a safe and secure global commons for the use and benefit of all. Ireland will continue to advocate for global norms and rules governing human activity in space, in accordance with international space law.
Ireland remains committed to the 1967 UN Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies, also known as 'the Outer Space Treaty' and the 1972 UN Convention on International Liability for Damage Caused by Space Object.
All states, whether space-faring or not, have a responsibility to advocate for improving the space security environment, and to ensuring space is used exclusively for peaceful purposes for the benefit of all humankind.
With the rapid increase in commercial space activity, Ireland will continue to work internationally to enhance the governance of the civil exploration and to actively promote a safe, secure, stable and sustainable space environment and the peaceful use of outer space for all.
The proposed EU Space Act, which is expected to be published this year, will provide a common framework for safety, resilience, and sustainability in space through a consistent and EU-wide approach.
