I propose to take Questions Nos. 147 and 197 together.
Ireland remains convinced that the implementation of the two-State solution is the only way to establish lasting peace and security for both Israel and Palestine, and the wider region.
We are especially conscious of the need to build support from the ground up in both Israel and Palestine, in addition to advancing a political track at international level. Ireland is fully engaged on both fronts.
We continue to support the peace-building and reconciliation efforts of organisations focused on the Israeli-Palestinian context, including through sharing Ireland's experience of peace and reconciliation with relevant partners.
With regard to the plan for a two-State solution put forward by former Prime Minister Olmert and former Minister al-Kidwa, officials from my Department have been engaging with their respective offices in relation to this initiative. In addition, a senior official from my Department engaged directly with Mr Olmert and Mr al-Kidwa in Brussels in advance of the Foreign Affairs Council in November last year and we remain open to further engagement.
In parallel, Ireland is working with international partners to step up our efforts to implement the two-State solution, including through meetings of the ‘Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution’. Ireland is centrally involved in the work of the Global Alliance, the most recent meeting of which took place in Cairo in February.
Ireland is committed to using all the tools at our disposal - political, legal, diplomatic and humanitarian - in response to this dreadful conflict.
