I propose to take Questions Nos. 156 and 157 together.
I understand the Deputy’s questions to relate to the work of the Registration Office of Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) of my Department. People who are non-EU/EEA/UK or Swiss nationals proposing to reside in the State for more than 90 days must register an immigration residence permission with the Registration Office.
Since13 January 2025, the nationwide responsibility of immigration registrations transferred from An Garda Siochana to the Registration Office of my Department, therefore completing the civilianisation of administrative immigration functions. Renewals of permission are completed using the ISD online renewal portal. Applicants do not need to attend the Burgh Quay Registration Office in person unless it is deemed necessary. Applications are accepted up to 12 weeks prior to expiry of a current Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card to allow sufficient time for processing.
I can advise the Deputy that the Registration Office of my Department does not collate information on the number of applications submitted under each immigration stamp category, however, data is gathered on the number of successful first-time registrations and renewals under each stamp category.
Table 1 shows the total number of first-time Immigration permissions successfully registered, along with the total number of successful renewals of Immigration permissions, in 2023 and 2024.
Table 2 shows the number of individuals registered or renewed for 2023 and 2024, broken down by stamp category. It indicates unique individuals registered or renewed in a calendar year. It excludes individuals not obliged to register in that calendar year, and excludes multiple registrations of unique individuals in a calendar year. For example, a person on stamp 2 could be registered and granted an 8 month permission and would renew their application in the same year.
Table 1
Year | Total First Registrations | Total Renewals | Total all Registrations |
---|---|---|---|
2024 | 104,676 | 236,927 | 341,603 |
2023 | 103,772 | 197,003 | 300,775 |
