204. To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade regarding the passport application system, the reasoning behind the recent change in policy whereby the notarising of a passport applicant’s driver’s licence must now be undertaken by a solicitor or notary public rather than by a member of An Garda Síochána; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Passport Service continues to accept copies of driving licences certified by a member of an Garda Síochána.
If the Deputy has concerns in respect of a specific application, please bring the details of the case to the attention of the Passport Service who will review the matter further.
