Delivering on the commitments laid out in the Programme for Government is a priority for me as Minister, my Department and my colleagues, Ministers of State Colm Brophy and Niall Collins. Working with them, I want to ensure that our justice system is modern, efficient, and responsive to the needs of all of our people. To serve the fundamental need of all people to feel safe and secure in their homes and in their communities.
To achieve this, the Government will invest in every aspect of the justice system – from An Garda Síochána to our Courts Service, our prison and probation services, the immigration system, and the security of the State. Preventive measures in areas such as youth justice and domestic, sexual and gender based violence will be prioritised, to break the cycle of crime before it begins.
In line with the provisions of the Public Service Management Act 1997 my Department is currently preparing a new Statement of Strategy covering the period 2025-2028.
Preparation of the Strategy involves comprehensive engagement through public and stakeholder consultations. Our Strategy will be informed by the Programme for Government, key Government priorities, policy frameworks and other significant issues, and will set out our high-level goals for the period. For the lifetime of the Strategy, the work of my Department will be formulated around these goals.
I intend that the new Department of Justice Statement of Strategy will be published later in the year.
