The Inter-departmental Alternative Fuels for Transport Working Group was established in 2023 with an objective to oversee the system wide delivery of alternative fuel in transport aligned to decarbonisation objectives and relevant EU requirements and national obligations. The aims of the Working Group are to:
- facilitate greater visibility on policy development and delivery across the transport and energy sectors in relation to the development of alternative fuels in transport.
- coordinate a variety of ongoing actions concerning alternative fuel infrastructure and renewable energy across the transport sub-sectors, land, aviation and maritime.
- ensure alignment with decarbonisation objectives and related energy security policy by other Government Departments and sectors, including the Hydrogen Strategy, the Biomethane Strategy and industrial policy for offshore renewable energy production.
The Working Group meets on a quarterly basis and last met in December 2024. The next meeting of the Working Group is scheduled to take place in March 2025.
In line with action TR/24/3 of the Climate Action Plan 2024 I have approved the working group 2024 activity report which will be published shortly.
