282. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he is aware of cases of bus drivers refusing passengers with foldable bikes from their routes, as foldable bikes are permitted on buses; if he will instruct his Department to investigate all such cases and provide guidance for such passengers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport; however, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport. The statutory responsibility for securing the provision of public passenger transport services nationally rests with the National Transport Authority (NTA). The NTA works with the public transport operators, who deliver the services and have responsibility for day-to-day operational matters.
The matter raised by the Deputy in relation to foldable bikes is an operational issue for the bus operators in conjunction with the NTA. Therefore, I have forwarded the Deputy's question to the NTA for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within ten working days.
