My Department provides funding to Men's Sheds under various funding streams, namely the Community Enhancement Programme/Local Enhancement Programme and its various iterations, SICAP, LEADER, Scheme to Support National Organisations (SSNO) and via the Irish Men’s Shed Association (IMSA).
Men’s sheds apply individually for most of the schemes mentioned above. The funding channelled by my Department through the IMSA in 2022 and 2023 was distributed directly to the Men’s Sheds by that organisation. My Department does not keep a central register of Men’s Sheds.
As it is the central body for Men’s Sheds, I would advise the Deputy to contact the IMSA for details of Men’s Sheds in Dublin South West. Separately details of Men's Sheds who have received funding through my Department can be located on the website,

1947. To ask the Minister for Rural and Community Development to outline whether the Government intends to reinstate the annual men’s sheds grants of up to €3000 per shed per year for the next five years; if he is considering allocating resources to an organisation (details supplied) for the provision of essential services on the ground, on a regional basis to ensure the good governance, continued development and sustainability of men’s sheds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department provides a range of supports which are available to Men's Sheds.
These supports include:
- The €7 million Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2025 which allowed Men's Sheds to apply for running costs as well as small capital works for the purchase of equipment for their facilities. LEP 2025 has recently closed for applications.
- The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) 2024 - 2028 also provides supports to Men's Sheds. This support is still available through SICAP.
- The Scheme to Support National Organisations (SSNO) which has been extended for 6 months from 30 June 2025 onwards to facilitate a review of the SSNO. The Irish Men’s Sheds Association (IMSA) has been allocated total funding of €283,684 over the three-years and 6 month period of the scheme.
- The LEADER programme where funding is not targeted at any particular group or sector in rural communities but focused on a thematic approach to rural development.
I would encourage all Men’s Sheds to check my Department’s website www.gov.ie/drcd, and to engage with their LCDCs, Local Development Companies and Public Participation Networks (PPN), to ensure they are aware of funding opportunities as they become available.
