While the exact information that the Deputy has requested is not available, the CSO do collect statistics on people with long lasting conditions and difficulties in the Census of Population.
In Census 2022, there were two questions relating to long lasting conditions and difficulties, including issues experienced due to old age. In these questions, people were asked to indicate the extent to which they experienced any long-lasting conditions or difficulties, either to some extent or to a great extent.
In Census 2011 and 2016, there were two questions relating to long lasting conditions and difficulties, these questions did not ask the extent to which they experienced any long-lasting conditions or difficulties they had, nor did they specifically refer to difficulties experienced due to old age. There were also minor changes to the wording of certain conditions listed. Due to the substantial changes in the long-lasting conditions and difficulties questions, Census 2022 results are not directly comparable with previous census data for these questions.
The table below shows persons aged 18 years and over who indicated that they experienced at least one long-lasting condition or difficulty to any extent at the time of the 2022 census.
