1198. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality to clarify that the current boundaries which exist between the city sheriff of Cork city and the county sheriff of Cork county would be reviewed in view of the fact that the current city sheriff’s jurisdiction only extends to the old city boundaries in Cork and currently the county sheriff is still responsible for the new areas which came into the city from the county; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 1196 and 1198 together.
I can advise the Deputy that my Department has been aware for some time of the fact that a vacancy would arise in the Cork City Sheriff bailiwick during 2025 and arrangements are in place to have the situation regularised.
I note the Deputy’s comments in relation to the jurisdictional boundary issues around the Cork City and Cork County bailiwicks and I will ask my officials to look into those matters in consultation with the relevant personnel from the Office of the Revenue Commissioners.
