To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the number and percentage of the overall prison population who are serving a sentence of less than three months; three months to less than six months; and six months to less than 12 months, by gender and category of offence, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The number and percentage of the overall prison population who are serving a sentence of less than three months; three months to less than six months; and six months to less than 12 months, by gender and category of offence is taken from the most recent snapshot of the prison population conducted on 27 February 2025 and is outlined in the table below.
The Irish Prison Service publishes detailed statistical information on a monthly basis and this information is available on their website www.irishprisons.ie in the Information Centre – under Statistics & Information – Snapshot Statistics.
