1038. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection further to Parliamentary Question No. 471 of 4 March 2025, if his Department will not be recovering the amount despite the account details not matching the account name (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Department's systems do not have the capacity to confirm bank account details.
The Department made contact with the customer on 10th March and sent the customer a declaration to sign, which will give the Department permission to contact the bank to in order to request a recall of the payments. On receipt of the signed declaration from the customer, the Department will initiate the process to request the return of the payments. It should be noted that this may take a number of weeks and is not always successful.
I trust this clarifies the position for the Deputy.
