My official have engaged with Gas Networks Ireland (GNI) in relation to the information sought and GNI has advised the following in relation to the gas demand of data centres and large industrial processes in 2024.

It should be noted that, for the purposes of this Question, GNI define “Large industrial processes” as their Daily Metered and Large Daily Metered customers, excluding Power Generators. These are larger Industrial and Commercial energy users, such as manufacturers, pharmaceuticals, hospitals, large office complexes and data centres etc. This excludes Industrial and Commercial customers in the Non-daily Metered (NDM) sector, i.e. small to medium enterprises (SMEs). The NDM sector covers both SMEs and domestic gas customers.

In response to the Question, GNI advises that data centres accounted for 0.3% of overall gas demand in 2024, and “large industrial processes” accounted for 21.5% of gas demand in 2024.
