No research has been carried out by my Department into the merits of creating a single international dial code for the island of Ireland. The reservation, assignment and reclamation of international dialling codes are matters for the International Telecommunications Union, the United Nations specialised agency for information and communication technologies.

My Department has overall responsibility for radio spectrum policy whereas the Commission for Communications Regulation, ComReg, is charged with the day to day management of spectrum on behalf of the State. ComReg is statutorily independent in the operation of its functions. In its remit of management of spectrum and to ensure alignment across the Island or Ireland, ComReg allocates radio spectrum frequencies in line with a harmonised European and international framework. These frequency allocations can be viewed on ComReg’s website at www.comreg.ie/industry/radio-spectrum/radio-frequency-plan-for-ireland/, where the complete Radio Frequency plan for Ireland is outlined. For each frequency band the types of radio services that are permitted for operation and those radio services that are currently in use in that band are detailed. While there are no specific initiatives to further improve broadcast radio signal reception this harmonised approach ensures that radio frequency allocations are coordinated across the entire Island so as to avoid interference or clashes in allocations. For more information on radio spectrum allocations please see details at www.comreg.ie/industry/radio-spectrum/.
