The Tuam Community Training Centre, based in Galway, provides education, training, personal development and progression opportunities for young adult offenders and those at risk of offending or re-offending. The premises occupied by Tuam Community Training Centre is owned by my Department.

The Probation Service and the Department of Justice are aware of the issues in relation to the condition of the premises occupied by Tuam Community Training Centre.

My officials will continue to liaise with the Probation Service around options for the Tuam Community Training Centre building, and the refurbishment of the premises may be considered for inclusion in plans for the redevelopment of the adjoining area, which is being progressed by Galway County Council.

I understand that the possibility of an interim solution for the accommodation of the organisation has also been discussed with the Office of Public Works.

Any decision around the future of the building will be taken in the context of an overall review of all properties held by my Department for the Probation Service.
