Any non-EEA national who comes to the State as a visitor is expected to leave Ireland before the expiry of their visitor permission.

If there is an unexpected change in a person’s circumstances since they have entered Ireland, they may apply for a temporary extension of their visitor permission up to a maximum of 90 additional days.

Any application should clearly state the reasons for the extension and provide all appropriate documentary evidence, for example medical reports, in support of the application.

Applications for an extension of visitor permission should be submitted, with all the required documentation, via my Department’s Digital Contact Centre (DCC). The DCC can be accessed at the following link:

It is also possible to apply by post to:

The application form and further information on how to apply is available here: www.irishimmigration.ie/extension-of-visitor-permission/

As an Oireachtas member, you can request the status of individual immigration cases by e-mail, using the Oireachtas Mail facility at: IMoireachtasmail@justice.ie, which has been specifically established for this purpose. This service enables up to date information on such cases to be obtained without the need to seek information by way of the Parliamentary Question process.
