There are a number of proposed capital developments at Beaumont Hospital, including a new Emergency Department, a 95-bed Ward Block, a 64-bed Critical Care Unit (CCU) Block and an extension to the Radiation Oncology Department. These capital development proposals are all progressing through the design and planning stages in line with the Capital Works Management Framework and the Department of Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery, and Reform’s (D/PENDR's) Infrastructure Guidelines.

As Beaumont is a live, busy hospital campus there is added complexity in terms of planning, sequencing and enabling any capital investment on that site. Our acute hospitals require a significant amount of phased enabling works to prepare for larger projects. These key enabling pieces are ongoing at Beaumont.

In October 2024, an application for planning permission for the Emergency Department was lodged with Dublin City Council. The HSE has advised that it expects a decision regarding the grant of planning permission in Q2 2025 with the project then moving to the detailed design stage, subject to the outcome of this planning decision.

Planning Permission for the 95-bed ward block was granted in October 2024. This proposal is now at detailed design stage.

The 64-bed Critical Care Unit is currently at Preliminary Design Stage. Its construction is dependent on the relocation of the existing Endoscopy Department which is at Detailed Design stage.

Work is in progress on a Pre-tender Business Case for the Radiation Oncology Unit in line with the Infrastructure Guidelines. There are four enabling projects required to progress this proposal. Two of these are completed, one is underway, and the tender for construction of a new vehicle access ramp is underway for construction to commence in 2025.

The process for these proposals is being managed through the HSE capital development process rather than requiring direct submission to the Department of Health or Government for consent. This is in line with the provisions of D/PENDR's updated Infrastructure Guidelines.
