71. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if she will establish a fund to assist schools to purchase a generator to ensure that when power is lost, they can open as normal, to ensure education for children is not interrupted as seen following storm Éowyn; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I have asked my Department to work on updating contingency plans for extreme weather events and that this work would be done in consultation with relevant stakeholders.

As part of its linkage in to the National Emergency Coordination Group my Department provided guidance and support to the school system including provision of generators to a small number of schools that had significant delays with their restoration of power. The NECG has set up a review group to assess any learnings from the recent storm event and my Department will input to, and consider, any outcome of same in the context of learnings for the future. This will inform any contingency planning for the school system.
