440. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government if his Department will reconsider the recent directive to local authorities around housing aid grants for the elderly whereby funding will not be provided for the replacement of an old oil boiler (heating system) with a new model boiler; if funding will only be provided for second-hand boilers; and if he will accept that this proposal presents difficulties for elderly citizens, who in many cases cannot source a reliable second-hand oil boiler easily and the fact that the design of their older homes presents challenges in moving from oil-fired boiler systems to air to water.
