254. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills in a case in which two ASD classrooms for a school have been approved, one earlier than the other, if the work on both classrooms could take place simultaneously in a ten-week period rather than one after another causing six children in need of a classroom, a 20 week wait (details supplied). I wish to advise the Deputy that the school in question received funding for the reconfiguration of existing accommodation to provide 1 Special Education Needs Classroom under the Additional School Accommodation Scheme (ASA) in 2024.
I am pleased to confirm that this project is Devolved to the School Authority. Kerrigan Sheanon Newman project managers have been appointed from the Department's Framework to design and oversee all elements of construction. The project is currently at the final stage of detailed design with works expected to commence on-site in the coming weeks. Completion of this project is expected towards the end of May 2025.
An application for a 2nd ASD classroom has been received and is currently under review. Officials from my Department will contact the School Authority shortly in this regard.
