195. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will provide an update on plans for a bus service between Athenry and Galway city; the reason the National Transport Authority has not provided further information or a timeline for the proposed three-times-daily service that was mentioned months ago; and if he will commit to ensuring that a town of over 5,000 people is adequately served by public transport. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for securing the provision of public passenger transport services nationally. The NTA also has national responsibility for integrated local and rural transport, including delivering the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan and New Town Services.
In light of the NTA's responsibilities for public transport services in County Galway, I have referred your question to the NTA for direct reply to you. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.
