The Department of Foreign Affairs is comprised of nine divisions and 45 units that sit within those divisions. There are a further five stand alone units that sit independently of those divisions. We have offices located in Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Armagh and Belfast.

The Department also includes Ireland’s diplomatic network, which now comprises 102 diplomatic missions (72 Embassies, 22 Consulates General and 8 multilateral and other offices), with an additional 3 Embassies and 2 Consulates General in the pipeline to open between this year and 2026. Each of these missions reports to a lead division or unit at headquarters which has overall responsibility for ensuring coherence and a unified approach to policy implementation.

A full list of these divisions and the units within them is outlined in the Department's Corporate Governance Framework available at the following link:

gov.ie - Corporate Governance Framework 2024 - 2026

In addition, my Department will shortly assume responsibility for a number of trade related functions which will be incorporated into the Department as appropriate.
