108. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the reason the renewal of public services cards needs to be done in person and no longer via phone or online; if he will consider facilitating online or over the phone renewals for public service cards, given the challenges this poses for anyone with reduced mobility or for elderly people; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department provides an on-line PSC renewal service through MyWelfare.ie for customers who have a verified MyGovID account. Customers who do not have a verified MyGovID account can set one up easily using their existing Public Services Card and by following the steps on the www.mygovid.ie website, they can then renew their Public Services Card on-line at a time and place convenient to themselves.
Alternatively, a person can arrange an appointment to renew their PSC in-person at one of my Department’s PSC / Intreo Centres.
Where a person has mobility issues or other concerns about attending for any in-person service, the person should contact the office and ask to speak with the Access Officer.
If the Deputy has an example of where a person could not avail of the online service I will be happy to that the case and ask my officials to contact the person concerned.
I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
