Oide is the new support service for teachers and school leaders, funded by the Department of Education. Oide’s post-primary subject teams offer professional learning and resources to support teachers to include all learners in their classrooms, including those students who engage with L1LPs & L2LPs.

The Post-Primary Inclusive Education team offers professional learning on Junior Cycle L1LPs and L2LPs to both English and Irish medium schools though clustered professional learning workshops, online webinars, information sessions and school support. This professional learning provides opportunities for school leaders and teachers to explore the key messages, on the teaching, learning assessment and reporting of the programmes.

A class or subject teacher has primary responsible for teaching the curriculum to all students including students with an identified special educational need.

The Special Education Teaching (SET) Allocation Model is a standardised allocation model that provides schools with additional teaching hours to support the teaching needs of students in mainstream classes.

Each school must deploy their SET resources to support those pupils who have been identified through the Continuum of Support with an identified special education need including those students who maybe accessing L2LP and L1LP within the mainstream classes.

Any school who has any concerns on their allocation can engage with the National Council for Special Education (NCSE). The NCSE will provide support to schools as required and will examine if the allocation is sufficient to meet the identified needs of all children and young people enrolled.
