Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, is the dedicated State agency responsible for improving wellbeing and outcomes for children and families. Tusla perform invaluable work often under extremely challenging circumstances.

On becoming Minister, I requested to meet with the CEO of Tusla and it was agreed that we would meet on 19 February 2025.

The CEO and I discussed a wide variety of issues including priorities going forward. The meeting provided a welcome opportunity to get to know each other and to share our views on key matters for children and families in Ireland.

Subsequent to the meeting, on 21 February, I had a follow up phone call with the CEO and Ms. Duggan supplied me with supplementary information by e-mail on 22 February.

Under the provisions of the Child and Family Agency Act, 2013 (as amended), I am responsible for appointing the Chair of the Board and other Board members and they report directly to me on a regular basis.

I will be meeting with the Chair and the Chairs of the Board Committees in the near future and will be meeting with them and the full Board on a regular basis. I am looking forward to my work with the Tusla Board and the CEO.
