844. To ask the Minister for Health if there have been any requests made of Cavan Monaghan Hospital group to provide a CT scanner at the Monaghan Hospital site; if she will direct the HSE to conduct a feasibility study for the provision of a CT scanner at Monaghan Hospital; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Cavan General Hospital and Monaghan Hospital operate as a single hospital, with an integrated managerial and clinical governance system, care pathways and support functions. Cavan and Monaghan Hospital currently have two CT scanners and one MRI scanner located in Cavan General Hospital. Access to CT scanner and MRI scanner is prioritised on clinical need.

I can confirm Cavan and Monaghan Hospital has made an application to the HSE National Equipment Replacement Programme to replace the existing MRI Scanner located in the Radiology Department of Cavan General Hospital. Notification of a decision in this regard is expected March 2025.

All capital projects in the HSE have to progress through the different stages of the Infrastructure Guidelines, which at the initial stage require a detailed business case including service requirements to be developed by the hospital delivering a service, ensuring value for money is achieved. At this time, Cavan & Monaghan Hospital has not submitted a business case for additional CT or MRI capacity.

The Clinical Director or Senior Management Team have not submitted a business case for additional CT and MRI modality at Cavan and Monaghan Hospital as clear clinical pathways exist that support the region.
