Following the completion of a comprehensive review of Part B of the Building Regulations, the Building Regulations (Part B Amendment) Regulations 2024 were signed on 26 March 2024. The operative date of these Regulations is 1 May, 2025, subject to the transitional periods cited.

As part of the review process, my Department undertook a public consultation between January and April 2023 seeking comments on a draft amendment to the Buildings Regulations, draft Technical Guidance Document B and a Preliminary Regulatory Impact Analysis.

Submissions were received from 163 respondents containing over 4,000 individual comments. Each submission was examined to consider if an amendment to the proposed Building Regulations relating to fire safety and/or the associated draft Technical Guidance Document was warranted or required. Over 1000 proposed amendments were accepted, resulting in over 300 specific changes to the draft Technical Guidance Document.

It is intended to publish these submissions on my Department’s website and preparations are already underway in this regard.

The Building Regulations (Part B Amendment) Regulations 2024, Technical Guidance Document B 2024 and a Final Regulatory Impact Analysis are currently available on my Department’s website: www.gov.ie/en/publication/263ee-technical-guidance-document-b-fire-safety/
