524. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government the reason for the underspend of €120 million in Exchequer spending on homelessness in 2024 after the supplementary budget increase of €143 million; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7647/25]

The 2024 budget allocation was €242m and a supplementary budget of €143m was provided and fully expended by my Department to support housing authorities to provide homeless services. The suggestion by the Deputy that there was an underspend in the homelessness budget is not correct.
My Department's role in relation to homelessness involves the provision of a national framework of policy, legislation and funding to underpin the role of housing authorities in addressing homelessness at local level. In 2024, my Department recouped funding of €385 million to housing authorities towards the provision of homeless services, including, prevention, tenancy sustainment, provision of emergency and supported accommodation and the Housing First programme.
