Section 46N(4)(a) of the Broadcasting and Other Media Regulation Acts 2009 and 2022 empowers Coimisiún na Meán to make media service codes setting out standards and practices to promote balanced gender representation of participants in news and current affairs programmes broadcast by broadcasters or made available by providers of audiovisual on-demand media services.

As Coimisiún na Meán is statutorily independent in the performance of its functions, the timing and composition of any media services codes it makes, is a matter for An Coimisiún.
