In support of Action 7 in the Department commissioned a survey in 2024, to examine the issues for patrons and artists with disabilities when going out at night and engaging in cultural activities. The issue of accessibility and the barriers that currently exist in the Night-Time Economy (NTE) has been raised on a number of occasions.

The survey closed in June 2024 for submissions and received just over 300 individual responses. This included 35 separate responses from organisations that represent persons with disabilities.

A report of that survey has now been finalised, and it contains a number of recommendations that aim to improve access for patrons when going out at night. The Department is currently reviewing those recommendations along with key stakeholders, with a view to providing a set of actions containing practical measures towards creating a more inclusive accessible Night-Time Economy. This will include training and awareness raising to support artists working in the NTE, people enjoying the NTE and venues who wish to provide a more inclusive NTE environment.

It is intended to publish the report in the coming weeks and the Department will continue to work with the Night-Time Economy Implementation Group, representative organisations for persons with disabilities and those and other key stakeholders to ensure a more diverse, inclusive and appealing night life for all.
