To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if he will undertake to work with Údarás na Gaeltachta to enable that body to provide support and incentives to ensure post office services can be provided sustainably in the Gaeltacht, particularly in the case where such a service would be the only public service within that community. It should be noted by the Deputy that issues relating to the postal network are operational matters for An Post and therefore all such queries should be directed to An Post.

I understand from Údarás na Gaeltachta that the possibility of supporting a retailer intending to provide a postal service on behalf of An Post in Gaeltacht areas has recently been explored but that such a project would not meet the eligibility requirements for any of the schemes run by the organisation.
