The Programme for Government – Securing Ireland’s Future published in January 2025 sets a number of targets which include the completion of the installation of high-speed fibre broadband to 1.1 million people, including homes, farms, and businesses nationwide, by 2026.

The National Broadband Plan (NBP) is the Government's initiative to deliver high speed broadband services to all premises in Ireland.

The Eircode provided relates to a premises located in the AMBER area on the broadband map, which is available on my Department's website www.gov.ie/en/publication/5634d-national-broadband-plan-map/. The AMBER area is to be served by the network deployed under the NBP State led intervention by National Broadband Ireland (NBI) to people living and working in the intervention area.

NBI have advised the Department that their operations team has checked the surrounding area near N37XR82, and no indication of a larger fibre break has been identified. If the Deputy can provide other precise Eircodes of the premises experiencing connection issues my Department will further examine the matter.

Commercial Fixed line operators Open Eir, Virgin Media and SIRO are delivering high-speed broadband services in the blue area/ non-intervention area of the map. These commercial operators are continually upgrading their existing networks in what is a competitive market. The activities of these commercial operators are not funded by the State and therefore are not planned, designed, or directed by the Department in any capacity. The Department cannot influence their day-to-day operations in any way.

The regulation of service providers is the responsibility of the independent Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg), in accordance with the requirements of the Communications Regulation Act 2002 and associated Regulations. ComReg must act independently in exercising its regulatory functions, including its investigation of complaints.
