In December 2023, Minister O'Brien approved funding for a number of projects including in the villages of Broadford and Cooraclare, under my Department's Multi-annual Rural Water Programme for the waste water collection and treatment needs for villages without access to public waste water services.

Following the approval of funding my Department wrote directly to each local authority advising that the projects should now commence and be delivered to completion as quickly as possible.

The local authorities are responsibly for delivering these projects in consultation with Uisce Éireann as, upon completion, the infrastructure built will be owned and operated by Uisce Éireann.

There has been significant follow-up engagement between the local authority and Uisce Éireann including a series of technical workshops on-site to collectively confirm the most efficient and speediest construction options. My Department continues to facilitate this ongoing engagement between the two key stakeholders to deliver the projects.

Each local authority has a Rural Water Liaison Officer who is responsible for the day to day implementation of the projects being funded under the Programme. The officer can be contacted at the Rural Water Section of the relevant local authority, in this case Clare County Council.
