I propose to take Questions Nos. 91 and 92 together.
My Department in partnership with Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation & Science published an ambitious ICT/Digital Strategy for 2024-2025. This sets out the strategic approach to continue the progress made in embedding digital technology across both departments.
This shared and collaborative approach puts technology at the heart of innovation and efficiency in both Departments and reflects the clear commitment to harness the power of digital transformation. The digital landscape is ever evolving and staying ahead requires a clear direction and proactive approach.
This includes a digital schools’ strategy and service delivery in schools to support teaching and learning in classrooms across the country, as well as the establishment of a Programme Management Office and Data Office, which aim to develop digital solutions across the system and to leverage data to inform strategy and decision-making.
My Department has further engaged in a significant back-office ICT transformation to enhance existing services and implement shared services for schools, ETBs and tertiary education institutions.
My Department processes and pays circa 170,000 school staff in the voluntary sector, in excess of 35,000 ETB staff, 12,000 members of staff in the Higher Education sector and approximately 17,000 apprentices and learners in further education. My Department is also implementing a finance shared service for ETBs (annual budget €2.8billion), which is projected to conclude by the end of 2026, as well as undertaking a number of sector-wide large-scale procurements for education as a whole.
A five-year breakdown of annual expenditure (including VAT) by my Department on the procurement of services to develop and maintain digital and IT systems is set out in the table below.
