The Residential Tenancies (Amendment) Act 2024 was enacted on 12 July 2024 and came into operation on 19 July 2024. The Act amends the Residential Tenancies Act 2004 with the key aim of limiting to not more than 41 weeks, the duration of a tenancy or licence in student specific accommodation, other than at the request of the student.

My Department and the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) keep the operation of the Residential Tenancies Acts and the residential rental sector under constant review and work to ensure that an appropriately balanced policy and legislative framework is maintained.
