The person referred to by the Deputy holds a Stamp 2 immigration permission as an English language student valid until 09 June 2025.
Non-EEA national students should note that the Student Pathway on my Department's Immigration Service website sets out the immigration route for non-EEA national students at: .
When a non-EEA national comes to Ireland to undertake a course of study, be that an English language course or a course at level 6 or above on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), a Stamp 2 student immigration permission will be granted.
A student may be granted an immigration permission for a maximum of three English language programmes of 8 months duration each. The total duration of immigration permission for a new student attending English language programmes is two years (i.e. three permissions of eight months each).
If a person wishes to stay on as a student after that time they must enrol on a higher education programme listed on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes (ILEP).
Where a non-EEA student has completed their studies in Ireland and gained an award at level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications or above, that person may qualify for a Stamp 1G for 12 months under the Third Level Graduate Programme. Where an individual receives an award at level 9 NFQ, they may qualify for a Stamp 1G for up to 24 months subject to the overall limit of 8 years on student conditions that applies.
This period on the Stamp 1G immigration permission is to provide the graduate and any prospective employer a longer opportunity to make an application for an employment permit. Matters relating to employment permits do not fall within the remit of the Immigration Service and is a matter for the Employment Permits Division of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. Further information relating to employment permits can be found at .
If that application is successful, the graduate can register on a Stamp 1 immigration permission.
